Child Protection Policy
The FA introduced the requirement that all junior football clubs must have a child protection / club welfare officer and a child protection policy in place from the 1st September 2000.
As a result of this directive Gordano Valley Giants JFC now have their own child protection / club welfare officer who is available to listen to the concerns or worries of any young person or adult involved with the club, with regard to child protection issues.
Child abuse takes many forms and can be inflicted on a young person by a parent / guardian , other family member, friend or stranger. The abuse may be intentional or occur as a result of failure to provide adequate care and protection.
Gordano Valley Giants JFC intend to do their best in providing a safe environment for the player at both training sessions and matches.
All players and parents / guardians will be aware of the location and times of training sessions and be given a fixture list for all matches.
Team managers will have available, in confidence , information about the young persons medical condition and any necessary medication that may be required.
Young people will be supervised by the managers and authorised assistants at training sessions and matches.
Young people will be encouraged to behave responsibly and safely.
The training will take into consideration the young persons ability and potential, and not exceed their capabilities in an excessive manner.
The young people will be actively encouraged to improve , be given realistic goals to achieve and will not be exposed to destructive criticism or put under unrealistic pressure to perform to high expectations constantly.
Team managers and other club officials should avoid situations that may give the opportunity for false accusations to be made.
Managers and assistants should not spend time alone with a young person.
Managers and assistants should not travel alone with a young person.
Managers and assistants should not become involved in rough games.
Managers and assistants should not allow use of inappropriate language.
Managers and assistants should not ignore any allegations made by any young person.
Managers and assistants should not become involved in any provocative games or suggestive comments.
Managers and assistants should refrain from unnecessarily touching a young person.
Any allegations made should be reported to the child protection / club welfare officer as soon as possible.
Any reports of child abuse will be investigated and , if necessary, be reported to the relevant authorities.
The relevant authorities (FA) and club welfare officer have vetted all our managers , coaches , and club officials.
